To California And Back!

To California And Back

We just got back from our trip to Cali, and are all feeling very tired and exhausted. We had a blast, and met a lot of cool people out on the west-coast; but we also are sure glad to be back home. It sure was a super-long road-trip, and the drive felt pretty endless and boring at times. It was all totally worth it, though, as we made many new friends, played some fun shows, and visited some great places we’ve never been before.

See, none of us (Josh, Matt, or Ben) had ever been out west past like Memphis or something, and it was a new experience to us. The climate change took a little getting used to, but even though it was dry and hot, we didn’t sweat as much as we would back here in Chatt., the weather in Southern Cal was very beautiful and as nice as you could wish it to be. We enjoyed it a lot.

We also got to go to the beach (which was awesome and very cold!) and Josh got to swim with dolphins! Well, a school of them swam by about 10 feet away; but they were very close! We also got to visit Hollywood, and experience some of the cool parts of downtown L.A.

To all those who supported us on this trip; (those in Chatt., and those who helped us on the road)
we give our utmost thanks and appreciation. Thanks for making it possible for us!

Our Album Mixing Is Finally Complete!

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Yesterday, we finally got our c.d.’s mixing finished.  Everything sounds great, all the instruments and vocals are mixed with a big sound, and all the tracks sound fabulous even without mastering.

Hopefully the c.d. will be sent to Nashville by the end of this week to be mastered, which will make it sound even better.  We are all very pleased with the mix and the way everything sounds, Tyler is very creative and his ear for how the music should sound is spot-on.

Our album is kind of long, considering that we ‘jam’ a lot more on this record than in the past; but not in ways that detract from the songs’ structure.  It’s not too progressive, and the sound quality is outstanding.  It’s definitely the best thing we’ve done so far…..

Anyways, City of Voices;

stay tuned for more updates!

Camping out in the studio

Monday, May 21st, 2007

5/7/07–5/18/07

For the last two weeks my brother and I (Matt-bass,vox & Josh-vox,guitar), have been “camping out” if you will at the studio.  Our cousin (Ben-drums) only stayed for one week, due to his work schedule.  But, for the majority of the time, we were all getting the “full experience” as they call it–those who had recorded at First St. Studio before.

 Anyways, so we’re all camped-out with our sleeping bags, air mattresses (they had a few mattresses there as well), food, a fan for air-circulation, and even a flashlight.  It was kind of like a long, musical sleep-over ;).

We brought a small refrigerator along, to keep cool sandwich meats, etc., and for drinks.  Unfortunately with a ’starving artist’s’ budget, we ended up having p.b.&j. most of the time!  Luckily, none of us are picky and didn’t care too much about the lack of gourmet cuisine….

At times, there was absolutely nothing to do at the studio at night (due to the large amounts of mixing each instrument, and our producer didn’t work super late hours), so we just read, or sat around.  Sometimes, especially during drum-mixing day (which entails hours of drum hits) we got so much cabin-fever, that we just had to get out.  We ran to the nearest Sonic, or to a nearby friend’s house once or twice.

All in all it was totally great fun, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way.  Even though our recording experience isn’t as extensive as some other bands, I would say that camping-out is the best way to do a record.  We did get the ”full-experience”.  We were able to focus on the songs, one piece at a time, and not be distracted during the day or night.  We were able to put the best work in to the album that we possibly could; we worked on every song until we got the best takes, and it all came together nicely!  For that and the fact that Tyler Orr let us stay in his studio, we are very thankful.

Well, stay tuned for more info and updates concerning our new album, which its title will be revealed soon!

Thanks and peace!

Recording Our New Album! 5/7-5/22 2007

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Hey City of Voices!

Here’s an update on our progress;

  • We’ve completed tracking all the music and vocals for our new album and are now nearing the end of mixing.  We are hoping to send the finished mix off to Nashville to be mastered sometime within the next week.  Exciting, exciting!  (Yeah, we’re pretty stoked!)
  • It’s been the most extensive recording experience we’ve ever had; considering we crammed a month’s worth of work into a couple weeks!  Luckily we had the songs down to a ‘t’, and already knew what the completed project should sound like.
  • We recorded at First Street Studios, in Cleveland, TN, working with producer Tyler Orr, who’s done an awesome job, and really knows what he’s doing!  A big shout-out to Tyler.

Anyways, we’ll keep you posted on the rest of our progress, and when a song or songs will be available online.

Peace!

Check out the updates!
