Camping out in the studio
5/7/07–5/18/07
For the last two weeks my brother and I (Matt-bass,vox & Josh-vox,guitar), have been “camping out” if you will at the studio. Our cousin (Ben-drums) only stayed for one week, due to his work schedule. But, for the majority of the time, we were all getting the “full experience” as they call it–those who had recorded at First St. Studio before.ÂÂ
Anyways, so we’re all camped-out with our sleeping bags, air mattresses (they had a few mattresses there as well), food, a fan for air-circulation, and even a flashlight. It was kind of like a long, musical sleep-over ;).
We brought a small refrigerator along, to keep cool sandwich meats, etc., and for drinks. Unfortunately with a ’starving artist’s’ budget, we ended up having p.b.&j. most of the time! Luckily, none of us are picky and didn’t care too much about the lack of gourmet cuisine….
At times, there was absolutely nothing to do at the studio at night (due to the large amounts of mixing each instrument, and our producer didn’t work super late hours), so we just read, or sat around.  Sometimes, especially during drum-mixing day (which entails hours of drum hits) we got so much cabin-fever, that we just had to get out. We ran to the nearest Sonic, or to a nearby friend’s house once or twice. ÂÂ
All in all it was totally great fun, and I wouldn’t have done it any other way.  Even though our recording experience isn’t as extensive as some other bands, I would say that camping-out is the best way to do a record.  We did get the ”full-experience”. We were able to focus on the songs, one piece at a time, and not be distracted during the day or night. We were able to put the best work in to the album that we possibly could; we worked on every song until we got the best takes, and it all came together nicely!  For that and the fact that Tyler Orr let us stay in his studio, we are very thankful.
Well, stay tuned for more info and updates concerning our new album, which its title will be revealed soon!
Thanks and peace! ÂÂ
